POSTGRADUATE IN SPANISH AND LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGIES

The Postgraduate Expert in Spanish and Language Technologies of the CIESE-Fundación Comillas (center attached to the University of Cantabria) is aimed at graduates or those who are in a position to be so and who are interested in obtaining a theoretical and practice to language technologies from the field of the humanities.

This Expert title in Spanish and Language Technologies consists of 6 ECTS credits (150 hours) and is developed over a period of four weeks in the Virtual Classroom of the CIESE-Fundación Comillas. The student is guided at all times by the teacher who tutors him, both in personal learning and in participation in the different forums of each subject.

Among the objectives that the students will achieve throughout the course are:

  • Obtain a theoretical and practical approach to language technologies from the field of the humanities.

  • Reflect on the need to contribute the humanistic profile (philologist, linguist, translator, journalist) to natural language processing (NLP) technologies.

  • Develop skills that enable the digital profile of the Spanish language professional trained in the area of humanities (philology, linguistics, journalism, teaching, etc.) to be enhanced.

  • Get in touch with specific techniques of Natural Language Processing in the fields of Corpus Linguistics and Speech Technologies.

PROGRAM EXPERT IN SPANISH AND LANGUAGE  TECNOLOGIES

The online program of this course addresses the following subjects and contents:

Introduction to language technologies: the role of the humanities in NLP (1 credit)

PROF. SANTIAGO GONZÁLEZ FUENTE (CIESE-COMILLAS FOUNDATION)

From April 1 to 5, 2024:

  • Language technologies: social, academic, strategic and business relevance.
  • The National Plan to Promote Natural Language Technologies (TL Plan).
  • The “digital humanities”: applications of linguistic knowledge to the development of language technologies for natural language processing (NLP).

Corpus linguistics: design, annotation, management and exploitation of linguistic corpora (2.5 credits)

PROF. MANUEL ALCÁNTARA PLÁ (AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF MADRID)

From April 6 to 17, 2024:

  • Introduction to corpus linguistics: developments and applications.
  • Design and typology of linguistic corpus: multimodal/monomodal, synchronous/diachronic, monolingual/plurilingual.
  • Annotation of linguistic corpus at different levels: lexico-semantic, grammatical and pragmatic-discursive.
  • Management and exploitation of linguistic corpus: practical application to the teaching and learning of the Spanish language.

Speech technologies: Voice recognition and synthesis (2.5 credits)

PROF. WENDY ELVIRA GARCÍA (UNIVERSITY OF BARCELONA)

From April 18 to 30, 2024:

  • Introduction to speech technologies
  • Applications, resources and tools
  • Voice synthesis
  • Automatic speech recognition
  • Dialogue systems

ACCREDITATION

This expert course in Spanish and New Language Technologies is a postgraduate degree from the University of Cantabria. Once the training is completed, the student will receive a diploma issued by said University in which the hours of the program appear, the credits to which it is equivalent and the grade obtained.

PRE-REGISTRATION

Pre-registration is done through the Virtual Campus of the University of Cantabria. Once the student has successfully completed the pre-registration and is admitted to the course, they will receive an email to formalize the registration.
